Everyone has their own preference for how they like to start a new year. Some set resolutions to accomplish throughout the next twelve months, while others are advantageous goal setters. And of course, there are always those who stay away from resolutions altogether. But no matter where you fall on the spectrum, there’s something we all need to do at the beginning of every year. Casting vision reminds people of what’s important.
If we learned anything from last year, it’s that life can change on a dime. The way we work, meet and execute day-to-day operations is subject to change and evolve, but the why remains constant. Clearly and thoughtfully sharing why your company exists, what your organizational goals are and how you’re planning to achieve them ensures that your team members are aligned. It brings people back to the basic question of ‘Why do I do what I do?’ and provides answers for the company at large.
Casting vision provides direction (again).
It’s often necessary to “zoom out” and paint a picture of where your company is going and how you’re planning to get there. This isn’t something you can do once and check a box. Rather, it’s something that needs to be revisited on a consistent basis. In a season when providing certainty is difficult, you can always provide clarity and direction. Creating clarity over certainty ensures that no matter what unforeseen challenges arise, your team knows where you’re heading and feels equipped to adapt accordingly.
Casting vision reinforces unity.
Casting a single vision amongst your organization creates common language and a shared goal. Gone are the days of siloed groups working in complete independence. When the vision of why you exist, where you’re going and how you’re going to get there is communicated consistently to everyone in the company, unity is formed. While each team member plays a crucial individual role, it requires a united team working together to bring a vision to life.
Casting vision warrants celebration.
When everyone is aligned towards common organizational goals, recognizing milestones and smaller accomplishments becomes second nature. The more consistently you communicate your vision, the easier it is for team members to recognize how each small task contributes to the end goal. Noticing and appreciating the ways in which your team plays a role in accomplishing organizational goals produces positive reinforcement. Your team can work confidently knowing they have an impact and are doing their job well. Celebrating your team creates camaraderie and a healthier company culture.
