Jeff Henderson came back for Session 2 of our Business Breakfast series: PRIMED. This series is all about giving you tools be a better presenter.
Jeff said, “Our goal is to help your next presentation become your best presentation.”
In this session, Jeff focused primarily on delivery preparation. “Think of your presentation like a movie,” he said. “Presentations are won or lost in transitions…Design the message before delivering the message.”
To design your presentation, try viewing it in these 3 boxes:
When crafting Box 1, simply tell a story.
For Box 2, introduce your new product or give your persuasive idea.
You should spend the least amount of time on Box 3. This is when you give a simple action step or take-away principle. HASHTAG-IZATION is the idea. Ask yourself, “What is the one quotable moment of my presentation?”
Jeff gave the example of Steve Jobs first introducing the iPod. Rather than hitting audiences with loads of technical jargon, Jobs described the iPod as “1,000 songs in your pocket.” So naturally, the next morning, headlines read “1,000 Songs in Your Pocket.”
This was the quotable moment that people remembered.
As one last guideline, Jeff introduced us to the 4 Types of Presenters. More than likely, you fit into one of these presenter categories.
By knowing your tendencies with one of these presenter types, you can know how to balance your delivery. If your tendency is to teach, be sure you are still connecting with your audience and motivating them to take action. If you’re a storyteller, make sure you have a point and vision of where you’re taking the audience.
There’s still more to cover, so Jeff will be back for Session 3 on September 27!
